Blaze in Yangon suburb destroys more than 1,500 homes: state radio
A huge fire in Ward 13, a northern suburb of Yangon, gutted 1,557 houses and left 1,962 families homeless Monday afternoon, a brief report on Myanmar's state radio said Monday night.
Ward 13 is inhabited by relatively poor people, with few two-story buildings.
Almost all the buildings, including a monastery, were razed.
Relief measures began immediately after the fire subsided around 3 p.m.
Casualty figures and the blaze were not immediately known.
