California Highway Patrol Recommends That Brandy Be Charged For Accident

|

R&B star Brandy Norwood may face charges for her participation a fatal car accident last month in California. The California Highway Patrol's investigation into the crash concluded that Norwood should be charged with a misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence. Brandy could face up to a year in prison if she is convicted.

CHP spokesman Leland Tang said to People magazine, "We know that Brandy's at fault for the chain reaction of the collision." Brandy's 2007 Land Rover plowed into 38-year-old Awatef Aboudihaj's 2005 Toyota at 65 mph on December 30, causing a chain of two other vehicles to hit the Toyota. The last car to hit Aboudihaj caused major injuries, which led to her death. CHP believes that Brandy was not distracted at the time she ran into Aboudihaj. Tang told People last week that Brandy was "very cooperative and helpful" at the scene of the accident.

CHP's recommendation was made to the Los Angeles City Attorney's office on Monday. It is now up to the L.A. City Attorney to determine whether to charge Brandy with the misdemeanor.
