Shakira will donate the proceeds from a concert in her hometown to build an arts school for 1,800 children forced to flee their homes by Colombia's civil war.
The concert, part of the pop diva's worldwide Oral Fixation tour, will is scheduled for Nov. 15 in the Caribbean port city of Barranquilla and is being billed as a festive homecoming for the hip-shaking international superstar who last month was nominated for five Latin Grammy awards.

SHAKIRA TO FUND SCHOOL WITH HOMECOMING CONCERT
Colombian beauty SHAKIRA is staging a charity concert in her home town of Barranquilla on 15 November (06) to raise funds to build a bilingual school. The HIPS DON'T LIE hitmaker hopes up to 1,800 children who were made homeless by Colombia's civil war will attend the school, which will be named after her Pies Descalzos (Bare Feet) foundation. The school is expected to open in 2008 in the poor La Playa suburb.

Shakira sweeps "Oye!" awards
In a replay of her successes at so many other awards events, VL's Most Influential Latina 2006, Shakira sweeped Mexico's "Oye!" Awards, taking home 4 awards and "a special award for social values", according to Spain's El Mundo newspaper. She looks pretty darned happy in this photo, via AP.
