New Internet Explorer to support Chinese-character .cn domain names
Shanghai. November 17. INTERFAX-CHINA - Microsoft's new version of its
Internet Explorer browser, IE7, will support Chinese-character .cn
domain names, in cooperation with the China Internet Network Information
Center (CNNIC), an official said today.
"The cooperation will bring material changes to the Chinese character
.cn domains," said Liu Zhijiang, a director with CNNIC. "We expect that
registration of domains will increase rapidly after the cooperation with
Microsoft."
According to Liu, the English version of IE7 can already process Chinese
character domains and the Chinese version, to be launched later this
month, will have the same feature.
Mao Wei, an official with CNNIC, said that according to the CNNIC there
are more than 150 million Internet users who use Chinese language.
He predicted that in the next two years, major Chinese Web sites will
all use Chinese character .cn domains and this will become a major
Internet surfing habit for Chinese Internet users.
