PlayStation 3 sold 88,400 units in 2 days |

The PlayStation 3 has been sold pretty much it's entire first shipment Japan which shouldn't be suprising to anyone. With the little amount of units available in a hot area, you knew it wasn't going to last. Now the US launch is this Friday and you can be sure the same thing's going to happen. Chuck's going to try and camp out for one provided there aren't already 50 people in line at the store he's planning to go to so I'm sure he'll report back on his success or failure. Me, I'll be in VEGAS BABY to watch the OSU/Michigan game in a sportsbook somewhere.

Tuesday night, some folks were braving a coming cold front outside the Galleria Best Buy to get their hands on one of the hottest items for Christmas, the Sony PlayStation 3. That's notable because the new system doesn't come out until Friday.
The first camper arrived Monday. By Tuesday, there were three dozen or so anxious gamers, and others who just wanted to get their hands on the hot commodity.

"I'm planning on selling it, to make some money because I'm kind of like, in debt," explained Richard Van who was waiting in line.

"It's a great investment, with business school, business majors, turn around and sell it for a lot more," said gamer Casey Shulin. "Ebay is going crazy for it, everybody wants it for Christmas."

For those of us who don't understand the hype, here's PS3 101: At $599 for the primo version, the PlayStation 3 goes where no game console has gone before:

"Instead of just gaming, and watching DVDs, it takes it to the Internet and bringing together on one unit that hasn't been out yet," said Best Buy manager Jacob Ralston.

Bad news recently came for those who pre-ordered PS3 through Best Buy because the company's pre-order offer was a mistake. It appears the only way to get one is in person and supply may be a major problem.

"We're expecting 20 of the larger model, and then six of the lower end," said Ralston.

That's right, all the waiting for 26 game consoles, but the die-hards are in it for the long haul with tents, air mattresses, laptops, and food from nearby restaurants. A couch even arrived while this story was being shot.

The Best Buy manager could not offer any information about additional shipments before Christmas.
