Jazz Royale Festival In Phuket This Weekend

The biggest JAZZ festival in Thailand with world-class JAZZ artists.


The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is to hold the inaugural greatest jazz festival of the year, "Jazz Royale Festival", with the cooperation from the Thai Airways International Public Co., Ltd. , TMB Bank Public Company Limited, and TMB Asset Management Co., Ltd.

A number of world-class jazz musicians will gather in Phuket this weekend on December 16th and 17th at Karon beach for the “Jazz Royale Festival”. The grand event is arranged in major tourist cities like Bangkok, Pataya, Chiang Mai and Karon Beach in Phuket to honour our beloved King Bhumibol Adulyadej on the occasion of his 80th birthday in 2007. H.M. the King is recognized as one of Thailand's best jazz musicians. He has composed 43 musical works which rank among the most well known in the history of Thai contemporary music. He has shared his musical interests with varied groups of musicians and members of the general public. His achievements in music have been internationally recognized, and have been presented with the highest accolades both in Thailand and abroad. The “Jazz Royale Festival” is one of the government’s initiatives to honour H.M. the King’s musical talent. The event will feature a number of well-known artists; namely, Kenny G, McCoy Tyner Trio, James Moody, The Dizzy Gillespie™ All-Star Big Band. Tickets cost 1,500 per person and can be purchased at the TAT local office in Phuket and Thai Ticket master counter at Central Festival. Part of the proceeds will go to H.M. the King’s projects under his royal patronage.

The event will be held during December 9-17, 2006, with more than 100 world-class artists and staff taking part. Led by Kenny G, McCoy Tyner, Nancy Wilson, Chris Botti, Regina Carter Quintet, and The Dizzy Gillespie(tm) All-Star Big Band, the event will take place in four main cities of Thailand, comprising Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, and Phuket. Part of the proceeds will go to H.M. the King's royal patronage projects.

The festival will be held on four stages. It will take place in four cities. The first stage will start in Bangkok at Sanam Suapa during December 9-10. The second stage will follow at the Horseshoe Point in Pattaya during December 11-12. The third stage will be held at Sanam Hor Silp in Chiang Mai University during December 14-15, and the curtain will close at Karon Beach in Phuket during December 16-17.

In this occasion, all the artists will play H.M. the King's musical works. This unprecedented event will be accounted as the biggest jazz festival in the country's history.>
